If you want to see bigger than life situations experienced by real people, then Hollywood is the place to be.  And one of these larger than life scenarios is the plethora of celebrity custody battles. 

When two Hollywood stars are seen going out, then they automatically become an item. Makes me wonder if they actually felt something for each other or were just "swayed' by the attention and the thought that they actually look good together. You can thank the psychosomatic effect of media for that. The couples then get engaged, have lavish weddings.  The people and the couples  thought that they have gotten the promise of Hollywood, a happily ever after life.

Happily ever after? Seems not the case.

Take a look at Britney and K-Fed, Charlie and Denise, Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, and the countless divorces that are reported almost every week in entertainment shows.

Ok, so they had irreconcilable differences. But what happens after the love has gone?

The children get to be at the center of all the fiasco.

Celebrity custody battles are just a nasty as the divorces themselves.  Sadly,even if the children have nothing to do with the separation, they are the ones who are treated the poorest. They are splashed in the tabloids, reported in tv shows and they have somewhat become bridges for the their parents' careers to actually blossom more. Can you imagine the effect on the children? It's bad enough to deal with the reality that your folks are hitting splitsville, it is worst to be talked about by the whole world like it's a life and death matter.

Here's my view of  what brings forth bitter celebrity custody battles:

• Sensationalized media attention - by the time that the paperwork comes in, the media makes a mad dash and airs the content exclusively (at least for the first day) for all the world to see. They tend to make the unfortunate situation newsworthy when it is a private affair.
• Court papers are made public - in connection with the first reason, the court documents are made available to the public. Well technically, they are supposed to be, but the celebrities have an option to seal them so that no one except those concerned can  examine the papers.
• They just won't shut up - "they" refers to the couples, their lawyers and those who report on the celebrity custody battles. They just kept on giving and airing interviews that end up in word wars which makes it more difficult for the judge to decide to whom they should grant custody. The result, the children end up going home to another house every weekend.

After the glitz and glamour, the children are the  most and badly affected by celebrity custody battles.  The parents themselves take their frustrations on their children, just look at what Alec Baldwin did to his daughter, Ireland.  Called her a "thoughtless little pig". I'm not going to publish the conversation for the child's sake. Celebrity custody battles tend to bring the worst in parents. Children get receive the rotten fruits of the labor of separation when they should be shielded with love in the first place.
